Going through life is difficult enough. I can not imagine doing so thinking this is all there is. Yet so many do. Purpose and meaning in life comes with the Resurrection. Job expressed what Christians yet this day believe saying: “I know that my Redeemer lives..and (one day) in my flesh I shall see God” (Job 19:25-27). Christ affirmed this Himself in John 5:28-29. All will one day arise to be taken either to a ‘resurrection of life’ or if unrepentant having done evil to a ‘resurrection of condemnation’. To illustrate this He chose His good friend Lazarus bringing him (among others) back from death. This witnessed by many.

This will be accomplished by the power of God in union with Christ and “through His Spirit Who dwells in you” (Romans 8:11). The key here is twofold. One is the importance of our being born again in the Spirit of which I have spoken before. The second important point is the resurrection of Christ which we rightly celebrate.

The resurrection of Christ and its meaning for our lives is clearly laid out in 1 Corinthians chapter 15. Here we are told the facts, its importance, how it took place and how it now affects past, present and all future faithful. Indeed each and every day if we truly believe we should loudly proclaim the words of 1 Corinthians 15:54 that DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: The Resurrection is our reason to rejoice.

DEVOTIONAL VERSE FOR TODAY: 1 Corinthians 15:54 “death is swallowed up in victory”.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Lord thank you for dying for me.

  1. Do you believe in the resurrection and if so why?
  2. What is life without Christ?
  3. Have you invited the Holy Spirit into your life?
  4. Outline the details of the Resurrection given in 1 Corinthians 15?
