What a horrific title for a devotional post. No one wants to talk about it yet down deep it still attracts us whether seen in our chasing fire trucks or going to a car race waiting for an accident. The reality is that it is coming to all of us so perhaps we should know a little about it.
We are told FIRST of all that SOME HAVE ESCAPED A PHYSICAL DEATH (ex. Enoch in Genesis 5:24) and will escape it at Christ’s return (see 1 Corinthians ch.15). The bottom line is that for our bodies to become immortal either physical death or transformation must take place.
SECOND the obvious is that NATURAL DEATH ENDS OUR JOURNEY ON EARTH. What legacy you want to leave behind or to present before God as well as how you fulfilled the Great Commission is now complete. The book of your life is sealed until God opens it so be careful on what is written on the pages of your life.
We are also told that ALL WILL BE RAISED. How death occurs to us or how our bodies are handled is irrelevant in comparison to the fact that those who had a life to live (both just and unjust) will all have a resurrection.
FOURTH ALL OF US WILL HAVE TO FACE DEATH because of original sin and the need for regeneration. That which is perfect (God/Heaven) cannot take on the imperfect. It is like a person when searching for his Sunday best by going to the dirty clothes basket. A change in us must take place. And FINALLY we NEED NOT FEAR DEATH as Christ conquers it.
Every one of us has a terminal illness which is death itself but for we who believe that ‘terminality’ is short and transforming as we truly can say ‘death where is thy sting’ for through Christ it no longer exists.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Natural death is the dawn of eternal delights.
DEVOTIONAL VERSE FOR TODAY: 1 Corinthians 15:54 “how death is handled”.
PRAYER FOR TODAY: Lord thank you for removing the sting of death.
QUESTIONS TO THINK ABOUT:
1. What is your view of death?
2. What will be your legacy?
3. How have you fulfilled the Great Commission?
4. Why do people “chase fire trucks”?
